Description

HIV/AIDS and the police is an important issue. Not only are police forces institutions that are impacted by the epidemic, but they are also in the front line of dealing with many of the groups most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. However, the police remain much- neglected in research and programming on HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this research project is to assess and deepen the understanding of the linkages between and impact of HIV/AIDS on police forces. Based on a review of existing literature and interviews with key informants, this study attempts to establish how HIV/AIDS impacts upon police forces. In addition, it seeks to identify and map the current range of programmatic responses to the disease by national police forces.
