Summit of Women's Social Justice Media Organizations
July 16, 2009 at the Allied Media Conference
Detroit, MI
The Women's Media Equity Collaborative is committed to stimulating a network of communication and collaboration across the field of women-centered media and to establishing a new model of funding that strengthens the entire field, broadens collective reach, and is sustainable. A $30,000 Collaborative Grant 'from the Social Science Research Council has enabled MEC to assemble a database of approximately 350 women's media justice organizations and outlets.
The MEC SUMMIT will provide a friendly, supportive meeting ground for groups to unite in common cause for women’s empowerment. Building trust is critical. We will add to and refine the database. Self-defined affinity groups will become a basis for program collaborations and together we will prioritize program needs. Based on MEC research we will identify promising collaborative sustainable funding models.
