Abstract

Between 8 and 30 July we performed a field study in the five Central American countries within the scope of the general ASCI programme (AIDS, Security and Conflict Initiative), a joint project of the Clingendael Institute and the Social Science Research Council in three thematic areas:
  • HIV/AIDS in uniformed services
  • HIV/AIDS, humanitarian crises and post-conflict transition
  • HIV/AIDS in fragile and crisis states
Our mission report provides a clear analysis of the HIV/AIDS problem in the armed forces and the police of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Central America is also a post-conflict region.
