Description

This is a proposal for a coordinated research project on HIV/AIDS in the context of
humanitarian crisis and post-conflict transition in six countries. The research will take
place in Bosnia, Cambodia, DRC, Liberia, East Timor and Haiti. The principal
objective of the project is to quickly generate a body of data on HIV/AIDS in the
context of post-conflict transition in the above mentioned countries that are emerging
from conflict or that have done so in the past twenty years in different regions in the
world. The project will assess evidence for the nature and extent of the HIV/AIDS
epidemic in these countries and the extent to which HIV/AIDS considerations are
incorporated into national recovery or reconstruction policies and programs.
Moreover, the project will identify the most vulnerable groups in settings of post-
conflict transition and what role the process of transition plays in placing people at
new or increased risk of HIV/AIDS. In addition the research will assess how
HIV/AIDS may affect the process of transition, future security and recovery.
